Fun Fact #1: Cyndi’s gig this coming March 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum is her only second event in Manila after 23 years! Yes, kuyas and ates! So if you were like me and missed the F-U-N in 1989, this is OUR chance (and probably our LAST chance in a looooooong while again) to see the pop icon again—in your lifetime!

Fun Fact #2: La Lauper became the ffirst female—and the first artist overall to generate four Billboard Hot 100 Top 10s (in fact, the Top 5) from a debut album. The collection yielded the No. 2-peaking “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Time After Time” (No. 1, two weeks), “She Bop” (No. 3), and “All Through the Night” (No. 5) in 1984. Not to mention that these songs are in constant rotation on the chart from one song to another accompanied with her eye-popping videos perfectly matched for the burgeoning medium of MTV that truly helped define a decade of music in the 80’s.

In order to pay homage to the 80’s and celebrate that historical moment, every 80’s music lover (old and new) must see this woman live as she relives the past with a fresher interpretation of the songs that cemented her career.

Fun Fact #3: Cyndi Lauper still has her four-octave voice and the energy to sing LIVE on stage! Unlike many singers out there who lost their voices as they aged or who lost their enthusiasm to perform, Cyndi’s not like most of them. Not to mention that other performers would rely on their back-up dancers’ skills or would simply put on a lot of stunts and pyrotechnics in order to mindset their audience, well, Cyndi is nothing but pure talent and infectious live music!

Fun Fact #4: She’s Cyndi Lauper, for art’s sake! A true artist has a real passion for music. Proof of that is her constant reinvention of her songs using different genres: New Wave, Pop, Dance, Rock, Adult Contemporary, Standard, Acoustic, Electronica, and Blues. Not to mention her numerous accolades: the Grammy, American Music Award, MTV Video Award, Billboards Award, People’s Choice Award, and Rolling Stone Award.

And yes, she’s been an inspiration to the artistry of some of the sensational female artists right now: Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Nicki Minaj, to name a few.

Fun Fact #5: Cyndi L-O-V-E-S all her Filipino fans! In my 200th blog post dated January 30, 2011, the photo above of Cyndi accepting her platinum record award in 1989 and her kind heart to donate to the typhoon victims in 1989 were featured.

And to further prove her love to her Filipino fans, Cyndi agreed to do an email interview with Ricardo Lo through his column at the Philippine Star, published on February 19, 2012. When asked about her memories of her first concert in Manila, when she donated an amount for typhoon victims, Cyndi replied, “What I remember most about my last visit to Manila was the people there. What great spirits! We all felt so welcomed by the generosity shown to us.”
