Marco Manalac Fated To Topbill ‘Equus’

When Myx VJ search finalist Marco Manalac was a young boy, people called him “Harry Potter” because he then wore thick eye glasses. Now, maybe call it fate, he is all set to reprise the role of the troubled Alan Strang, performed by “Harry Potter” star Daniel Radcliffe almost two years ago on Broadway, in Repertory Philippines’ production of “Equus,” which runs July 9-25 at Onstage, Greenbelt 1.

“Equus” is Peter Shaffer’s award-winning play about a 17-year-old (Alan) who commits the crime of gouging out the eyes of six horses.

“It’s really amazing that I get to do the role once played by Daniel Radcliffe,” admits Marco. “More than that, ‘Equus’ is really an exciting endeavor for me. I am very excited, but also terrified with this challenge.”

Marco may not be new to showbiz, having hosted a number of shows for Nickelodeon channel, but in theater, this is his first professional play.

With his boyish looks, lean physique, Marco is perfect to play the much-coveted role, but he will not rest on his laurels just like that because the stage newcomer is out to exhibit not just his body, but also his acting chops in “Equus,” which director Audie Gemora had a glimpse of during Marco’s auditions for the show.

“It was already the last day of auditions and my managers told me to try it out, so I obliged,” Marco shares. “I never thought I’d get the role, because, admit it, I am very raw in this field. But obviously, everyone saw something in me. I am working very hard, so I can give my best. I am also very thankful that I have the best co-actors and stage director to guide me.”

Marco assures everyone that what he is bringing into the show is his raw, fresh take on the role of Alan, and his willingness to offer the public his best.

“Equus “ also stars Miguel Faustmann, Jaime Del Mundo, Roselyn Perez, Tami Monsod, Dido dela Paz and Red Concepcion, who alternates as Alan in some shows.

“Equus” runs from July 9-25 at Onstage, Greenbelt. Please catch the closing show of “Equus” with MARCO MANALAC on July 25, 8pm. Playgoers are invited to a mini-get together after the show to celebrate the conclusion of the run. For tickets, please contact 09175420015 or 09164140358.

  1. Di naman po kaya lahat ay magpuntahan na lang sa last show dahil ang mga becky gustong makaparty si papa marco? LOL Thank you po sa update.

  2. Fated? Baka naman na-“fated” as in nadapa lang ng mga badidang sa repertory at kaya nakuhang umeklabo sa title role. Sige panonoorin kita, at sana hindi si Red ang maabutan ko.
