The opening verse of the song is highly provocative accompanied with a very catchy tune. Currently ranked at #15 at Billboard’s Club Play Chart with a greatest airplay and sales gain mark this week, “Peacock” is an enticing piece of Ms. Perry. If not arousing enough, the title alone is already an aphrodisiac forewarning everyone an invitation to the dance floor.
The first time I saw the track list of her “Teenage Dream” album I could already discern that this song insinuates something. True enough when I listened to the song for the first time, I did not get disappointed. Quirky yet sexy and funny! That’s the song is all about—at least to me even though it connotes a type of bird. . .
“Word on the street, you got somethin’ to show me, ee
Magical, colorful, Mr. Mystery, ee
I’m intrigued, for a peek, Heard it’s fascinating…”
Growing up listening to musical influence like Ms. Cyndi Lauper who was one of the revolutionary oddball artists, you can see how much it influenced Katy. She even admitted that her album is so “Cyndi Lauper!” and it reflected here in this song. This may be Perry’s homage to Lauper’s “She Bop”—one of the most controversial early songs of the 80s for its hidden double meaning lyrics about female masturbation.
I’m keepin’ my fingers crossed (no pun intended) that the song will be officially released as her next single next to her current very inspiring song, “Firework” whom she dedicated to “It Gets Better” campaign to stop bullying among the LGBT community. The song is adorable while the video is truly goosebumping! My minimalist best friend thought of the fireworks coming out of Perry and the others’ chests in the video a homage to “Care Bear Share“. . .
“Firework” debuted #57 this week at Billboard Hot 100 chart and I do have a strong feeling that this will be Katy’s fourth #1 song…if not, another Top 10 hit for her. To watch the video of “Firework”, click here. The live performance of “Peacock” can be seen here.
