“Whoever invented the Original Glazed, is a genius!”—Miranda Hobbes
Those are the immortalized words that Miranda Hobbes (played by Cynthia Nixon) said in one of the episodes of “Sex & The City” when she split a piece of Glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut with his Weight Watcher partner.
I was in Siam Paragon last Saturday (23 Oct) with my good friend Tatum when we decided to check the first outlet of Krispy Kreme which opened recently. We thought “the queue” had subsided because it was already around 7 pm but when we arrived there, ta-dah! Around 200+ Thais are still patiently waiting just to catch their Krispy Kreme!
And the photos above are only from the inside, here’s from the outside. . .
Uh-huh! And according to Tatum, during the first opening day, the queue was as far as the temple next to Siam Paragon! Imagine that. As a token of appreciation for the warm patronage of the Thai people for the past few days after its launching, Krispy Kreme gave away free doughnuts.
No biggie. Four years ago, the same scenario happened when Krispy Kreme was launched in Manila. Hundreds also gathered as early as 6 am just to make sure they’re one of those early birds to catch the worm, figure of speech of course. And those who wait for their order gets a free Original Glazed doughnut. Here are some pics from Pinoyfood. . .
And for those of you who didn’t know, the cost of a regular donut at Dunkin’ Donuts here in Bangkok alone is around THB 20-25 a piece so that’s around P28-35 versus estimated P10-15 a piece in Manila. Aside from its “beneficial” fats that it brings, I only eat a piece of doughnut after our church service where they serve it for free!
With the current selling cost of an Original Glazed Krispy Kreme at THB27 or P37.8 a piece versus the selling cost in Manila at P31 while assorted doughnuts cost THB35 or P49 a piece versus P42 in Manila, I’d really rather wait ’til December to munch a Krispy Kreme doughnut where it’s way cheaper and where long queue is not required at all. Even Tatum herself said that she’d rather wait for me to bring her Krispy Kreme from Philippines than wait in “vein” in Bangkok. Yes, I used the word vein as Tatum doesn’t want to have varicose veins from this loooooooooooong queue! Still not convinced, watch the video here.
